The Price of Loneliness Tears fall slowly down the wrinkled cheeks, And hope fades, Ripping her very soul to pieces As he passes by her door, Eighty years old today And nobody cares. Gazing out of the window From the damp and shabby room, Watching as the world rushes by, No one stopping to wave, They have their lives, she hers, And nobody cares. Looking around the remainder of her world, She sees the photographs, Her children, But where are they now, where is she? It doesn’t matter anymore, For nobody cares. Life has been long, she is weary, Age and loneliness crept up unawares, Enveloping her in its ’ever open arms, Hiding her, And no one knows she exists, For nobody cares. Swallowing down the last tablet, She bids a silent farewell to the world And at last a light shines in her eyes, Soon it will be over, No more this life And she thanks God for taking her From a world where nobody cares. |
