                                                 Peace

The land is silent now

And the planes lie dormant in their hangars,

Weary from their long and endless journey.

The old air raid shelters stand empty,

Empty yet full of memories of the laughing children

Who knew no fear

And the faces of the old who lost everything and gained

Nothing

No guns sound now,

Only the beating of broken hearts

And the whisper of words afraid to be spoken.

The bombs fall no more, just the tears from saddened eyes

That have seen the terror and hatred scarring their minds

Forever.

The sirens sound the end of an era

And the sun up high casts it’s shadows on the debris of life

While the rain tries fruitlessly to wash away the pain and the

         suffering.

The rainbow above shines on through the day

Spelling out it’s message of peace.

The war is over, but in our hearts it lives on.
